Just noticed something: in all cases where I get "BAD signature", the
"created on:" field says 31 Dec 1969 - Unix epoch time.  Do others see
the same?

Of course this could result from any bad code path in the verify code,
but it raises the possibility that is the message data is somehow
mangled, it could be the signature part and not the signed text part.
Arrrgh!
