I also maintain a somewhat successful Tip: Grsecurity/Pax installation on Debian GNU/Linux http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=108616 among other attempts of mine at contributing to GNU/Linux. I am writing to you mostly for reasons of my need, and, IMO, once the users learn the truth, many users' need too, to live systemd-free (the truth, alas, is buried under... [you name it]). Yes, if I don't get to somehow free my Debian from systemd, I most likely will be opting for some non-systemd GNU/Linux. IIUC, the systemd is now the sole option, no other left in Debian, right? I'm on Jessie, not going back, and so not talking of vanishing into the past Wheezy as option, sole option for Jessie, right? If so, pls. is it possible to bring back the issue of Debian users needing an option to live without systemd, i.e. having a systemd-free Debian as viable option for their machines? As far as the introduction of a conflicting package that can solve the need to become systemd-free, is that still a viable option, could anyone of you developers provide some help to us users how to do it on the Debian Forums, the secrion System configuration, the topic same as Juliusz's topic on debian-devel, link above; or by other means? Or is it the pinning the way to go, assistance needed just the same, the same place, if possible; or by other means? And also, isn't that shameful hopocrisy on the part of, IIUC (correct me it I'm wrong), Joerg Jaspert who is saying in: https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2014/07/msg00070.html On 13624 March 1977, Lars Wirzenius wrote: >> You get a choice of 'prevent-systemd' which stops it running as init >> but allows the -shim and libpam packages so that logind and the like >> will work. A package with this name wont ever appear in the archive, and I just rejected it. So, do I understand correctly that because of their names, the packages: prevent-systemd and systemd-must-die the Wookey's packages, were not admitted into the official repositories, reason cited, not admitting them just because of, what?, containing "prevent" and "must-die" in their names. That a justifiable reason? In this day and age when we have "daemons" of all sorts all around in GNU/Linux internals and while we "kill" things all over in our scripts and on the command line? Joerg, you must be either joking of being very arrogant. Pls., bring back the freedom into Debian! This is hipocrisy and imposition, this is treason of the core values of Debian! Wokey, pls., if it can't go with that name, let go, rename it to, don't know somesuch as get-my-box-systemd-free (I'm just saying it off the tip of my tongue...), rename it to anything that will free us users who can not develop like you, from systemd. Please, for the sake of other users, not just me! I'm not qualified enough to write to the debian-devel list, anyone feel free to use my message if you wish, parts of it or in its entirety. If you reply and, best, if you reply to all, you're appreciated! Miroslav Rovis Zagreb, Croatia www.CroatiaFidelis.hr A sidenote: I read most of the thread, but that's too complex DD lingo for me to follow: Reintroducing FFmpeg to Debian https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2014/07/thrd3.html#01010 but I don't get it, will FFmpeg be back or not? I very much wish for it. I'm on Testing branch, install from jigdo DVDs, amd64, haven't noticed any true ffmpeg packages, my last update was July 21. ==== see the non-wrapped Deb_DD_mail_140816cor* from === ==== http://www.croatiafidelis.hr/gnu/pts/Deb_DD_mail_140816cor.d === ==== for sig or pts checking ====
